We are absolutely
committed to providing a Bible education at a price that allows students
to graduate without debt. Some of you will notice that our tuition
has increased from $100 to $175 per credit. We want to take a moment
to explain why we have increased our tuition and reaffirm that we
are still fundamentally committed to allowing students to graduate
without debt.
Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, EBC has been
working through a financial crisis. The funding we received through
tuition and contributions left us with a shortfall—even with holding
back in many areas, including advancement and staffing. Because of
this, we have decided to raise our tuition to $175 per credit. We
believe that this price should still enable most students to graduate
without debt. That is not to say we believe it will be easy or doable
for all students. We have scholarships available for students who
are unable to meet this expense.
To put our tuition in perspective,
consider the following:
- The average ABHE school spends $26,432 per student per year.
- EBC spends about $6,200 per student per year—that
means we are able to reduce 77% of the cost simply by the efficiency
of the way we operate. That includes things such as our simple
campus, hard-working staff, and reasonable salaries.
- We are budgeted
to bring in contributions that amounts to about $3,050 per student
next year, which will cover about 49% of the remaining cost.
- That
leaves the average tuition of $3,150 per student (18 credits/year,
which is the average number of units a student takes).
Scholarships will
be an important part of helping students make tuition. In the past,
we basically gave every student a scholarship (by only charging $100/credit)
and then had to raise the money to cover that scholarship. With the
increase in tuition, we will be distributing scholarships on the
basis of need and merit. We believe that this plan will enable all
of our students to graduate without debt, provided they are willing
to work hard and live simply.
We have prepared sample
budgets for
our students (both single and married). Of course, these numbers
may not be exact given your specific situation, but they should give
you an idea of what to expect.
